Backstory: Mason's parents were very young while they were together, and did not plan to have a child, at least not so soon. Naturally they were unprepared to raise him and couldn't agree where to live; they met in Nakari's capital while Jessalyn was visiting and Louis was living there, but he wanted to move back to Ketavon, where he lived as a child.

She was beginning to regret everything she'd done with him, since they hadn't married yet, so she wanted to return to her parents' house and give up her responsibilities in order to forget the "mistakes" she had made. Louis and Mason moved to Ketavon not long after. 

He became friends with his father's friends' daughter, Natalie, and when Mason was 4, two people moved into his house--Éva Delacroix, who Louis married a few years later, and her daughter Lidiya.
